An ultrasound exam may be done before treatment to look at the veins and help with the procedure. A fine needle is used to inject the sclerosing solution into the veins you want to treat during your session. The procedure usually doesn’t need anesthesia and takes 30 minutes or less. Patients may feel a mild stinging or cramping, but the pain is not too bad. Compression stockings are often suggested after treatment to help the body heal. Most patients can go back to their normal activities right away, but they should limit their time in the sun to avoid pigmentation problems.
