Treatment Overview

Treatment Overview

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins that uses radiofrequency energy to safely heat and collapse unhealthy veins. Once sealed, blood naturally flows to healthier veins, which makes circulation better and legs look better. At NewDermaMed, we specialize in advanced RFA procedures that give long-lasting relief from varicose vein symptoms like heaviness, swelling, and pain, as well as better cosmetic results. These procedures have very little downtime and almost no scarring.

What to Expect

What to Expect

An ultrasound exam is done on the affected veins before the procedure to see how bad they are and plan the procedure. Local anesthesia is used to make sure the patient is comfortable during the session, and a thin catheter is put into the vein that is sick. After that, radiofrequency energy is sent to the vein wall, which makes it heat up, collapse, and seal shut. Most procedures last between 30 and 60 minutes, and patients may feel some pressure when the catheter is put in, but the discomfort is usually very low. After treatment, you can usually go back to your normal activities right away. However, you may need to wear compression stockings for a short time to help the healing process.

How it Works

How it Works

RFA sends controlled radiofrequency energy to the vein wall through a catheter. The heat makes the vein spasm and its collagen fibers shrink, which permanently closes the vein. The body naturally reabsorbs the treated vein over time, and blood flow is redirected to nearby healthy veins. This process not only helps blood flow better, but it also makes bulging varicose veins and their symptoms less noticeable.

Maintenance

Maintenance

After just one RFA session, most patients see long-term improvement. After treatment, a vein does not come back, but new varicose veins may form over time because of genetics, lifestyle, or other reasons. Follow-up visits and preventive care, like exercise, managing your weight, and wearing compression stockings when you need to, help keep the results for a long time.

Who is Radiofrequency Ablation For?

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a good choice for people who have moderate to severe varicose veins that hurt or make them look bad. It is especially good for people who have leg pain, heaviness, swelling, fatigue, or bulging veins that haven’t gotten better with conservative treatments like compression stockings. RFA is also a great choice for people who want a less invasive option to surgery that doesn’t require a lot of recovery time and leaves almost no scars. But it might not be right for people with very twisted veins that make it impossible to insert a catheter or for people with certain medical conditions. A professional ultrasound evaluation makes sure that RFA is the right treatment for you.
