Acne Scars

After acne clears up, many people are left with unsightly scars. The appearance of these scars range in color, texture and size. They can take the form of hyper-hypo pigmentation, pitting, and over-production of scar tissue. Fortunately, at NewDermaMed we employ the most advanced technologies to safely and dramatically reduce the look of all acne scars by reducing pigment, brightening skin, and evening out complexion.

We are proud to offer this service at both our downtown Toronto and North York locations and are happy to service customers from the Mississauga area.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
Appears anywhere on the body and varies in size. Often caused by hormonal changes, and/or acne inflammation.

Soft Scars
Generally small, these vary in depth and shape.

Atrophic Macules
Soft and sometimes blue or white. These can appear on the body as well as the face.

Acne Scar Treatment

At NewDermaMed we are proud to offer a variety of laser therapies to successfully treat all types of acne scars from superficial to deep acne scar tissue. Depending on the type of acne scarring, treatment plans will differ from patient to patient.

Fractional laser resurfacing is universally recognized as the most advanced treatment for acne scarring. The fractional laser offers a degree of control and efficacy that allows for highly precise sculpting of the skin. The laser can target superficial to deep acne scar tissue and is ideal for patients who want dramatic results with minimal down time. The following are some of the approaches we use at NewDermaMed using fractional laser resurfacing.

Fractional Laser

Fractional laser resurfacing is universally recognized as the most advanced treatment for acne scarring. A fractional laser skin resurfacing treatment penetrates deep beneath the skin’s surface selectively removing damaged skin in a pattern of microscopic columns. The laser energy stimulates the skin cells prompting the body’s self-renewal properties to eliminate the damaged cells and generate new healthy skin.

Fractional laser skin resurfacing targets superficial to deep acne scarring and provides long term results with minimal recovery time.

Twinlight Fractional Rejuvenation

TwinLight Fractional Rejuvenation is a two dimensional skin resurfacing and rejuvenation procedure utilizing Er:YAG and Nd:YAG lasers for a comprehensive acne scar treatment. Laser skin rejuvenation (Er:YAG) reaches the upper dermis well below your skin’s surface to improve the appearance of red acne scars by gently heating dilated capillaries to reduce redness and stimulate collagen.

During the skin resurfacing (Nd:YAG) portion of the treatment laser energy is emitted into the dermis to target and resurface damaged skin cells. This stimulates the growth of new healthy cells while prompting the body’s self-renewal properties to eliminate the damaged cells.

Dual Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing

Dual Fractional Laser Resurfacing provides a comprehensive skin resurfacing treatment achieved by a combination of Fractional laser and full-field Er:YAG laser. Fractional laser skin resurfacing penetrates deep beneath the skin’s surface selectively removing damaged skin in a pattern of microscopic columns. The full field laser targets superficial skin imperfections such as fine lines, surface scaring, pigmentation and sun damage.

Combining the two skin resurfacing treatments will stimulate the body’s natural healing process to create new collagen; improving signs of aging and repairing damaged skin with healthy skin cells from the inside out.

Acne Scar Treatment

Your clinic has a treatment for acne?

We do! Our clinic treats the most common forms of acne including: Comedones, Pustules, Papules, and Cysts/Nodules. NewDermaMed Cosmetic Clinic treats our clients that are experiencing acne with our Nd: YAG laser and Intense Pulse Light laser Technology. This allows us to use the safest and most innovative technology to suit each client’s needs.

What does the treatment do?

To begin, the laser emits a wavelength that penetrates through the skin and targets the overactive Sebaceous Glands (Oil Glands). When the sebaceous glands are heated, it causes a mild thermal injury that changes the activity of the glands. Simply stated, the glands no longer produce the same amount of oil, which is the main cause for breakouts. Also during treatment the nd:YAG Laser kills acne causing bacteria under the skin. This gives our clients better lasting results.

What about intense Pulse Light? What does that do?

Intense Pulse Light (IPL) works hand in hand with the nd: YAG laser for treating acne. It is ideal for destroying surface bacteria for a quick clearance of current acne breakouts. When IPL is pared with a pore-centered suction to clear out clogged pores, it shrinks pores them leaving your skin looking much clearer. All of this is achieved in just one session!

Can’t I just use a medicated cream?

Medicated creams do assist with the symptoms of acne. However, with an acne treatment at our clinic, we are targeting the underlying cause beneath the skin. Medicated creams only remain on the surface of the skin and provide temporary relief. They do not focus on the root of the problem, unlike our laser treatment.

What causes acne?

Acne is caused by a number of different factors some being: a build up of dirt and bacteria within the pores of the skin, hormonal changes, food sensitivities, and over active sebaceous glands. Acne also can affect men and women off all ages and backgrounds. Those who experience severe acne may also suffer from social anxiety, depression and social isolation. Here at NewDermaMed Cosmetic Clinic we offer a positive acne solution!

If I do decide to have a treatment, is there anything else I should be doing?

Maintain a regular skin care routine at home is imperative. Be sure to be using products that are oil free. It is also important to refrain from scratching, or squeezing the acne. This will worsen the infection as well as it will spread acne-causing bacteria to other areas. Scratching your acne will also give a higher chance of scaring.

What will my skin be like after my treatments?

Our clients see positive results right after their first session. Skin will be clearer, softer and over a short period of time blemishes will fade away exposing radiant skin beneath.

How many treatments will I need?

Depending on the severity of the acne, we might advise several sessions. If more sessions are needed they will be given two weeks apart. All of this can be determined during a FREE consultation with our Medical Professional.

If this is the treatment right for me, what’s the next step?

It would be our pleasure here at NewDermaMed Cosmetic Clinic, to book you in for a FREE consultation. During your private consultation you will be able meet our Medical Professionals as well as tour our clinic. Your FREE consultation will also allow you to discus in person any concerns you may have.
