Acne Treatment

Great for your feet, and good for your sole

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become blocked by accumulations of oil and dead skin cells. It can cause whiteheads, blackheads or pimples, and most often appears on the face, forehead, chest, upper back and shoulders. Acne is very common amongst teenagers, but it does affect people of all ages.

Many effective treatments are available, but acne can be stubborn. If you suffer from acne, you may feel that these pimples and bumps are healing slowly, and that as soon as you get rid of them, others begin to form.

Severe acne can cause emotional distress for many people. It can also lead to scarring. The earlier you start treatment, the lower your risk of such problems, but what matters is that you do seek treatment at any time of life.

We are proud to offer this service at both our downtown Toronto and North York locations and are happy to service customers from the Mississauga area.

Causes of Acne

Causes of Acne

Four main factors cause acne:

  1. Excess oil production
  2. Hair follicles plugged by oil and dead skin cells
  3. Bacteria
  4. Excess hormonal activity (androgens)

Types of Acne

What Are Comedones ?

A comedo, or basic acne lesion, is a hair follicle that has become plugged with oil and dead skin cells.

What Are Blackheads?

Blackheads are comedones that are open at the skin’s surface. They are also filled with excess oil and dead skin cells.

What Are Whiteheads?

Comedones that stay closed up at the surface of the skin are referred to as whiteheads. The built-up oil and skin cells then prevent a hair follicle from opening.

What Are Papules?

Papules are comedones that have become inflamed. They create small red or pink bumps on the skin. Having a significant number of papules may indicate moderate to severe acne.

What Are Pustules?

Pustules are really just another kind of inflamed pimple. Resembling a whitehead, with a red ring around it, the bump is typically filled with white or yellow pus.

2D Laser Acne Removal Treatment

2D Laser Acne Removal Treatment

Acne treatment:
Effective acne treatments reduce oil production, speed up skin cell turnover, fight bacterial infection or reduce inflammation — all of which help to prevent scarring. Progress can feel a bit slow. Most acne treatments take four to eight weeks before results show and your skin may get worse temporarily before it gets better.

Acne Therapies:
These therapies may be suggested in select cases, either alone or in combination with laser treatments.

  • Lasers and intense pulse light therapies
  • Chemical peels
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Steroid injections

How Does 2D Laser Acne Therapy Work?

2D Laser Acne procedure utilizes non-invasive laser technology to treat moderate to severe acne. The laser emits a wavelength that penetrates the skin and is concentrated within the overactive sebaceous (oil) glands. The result is a noticeable reduction in acne breakouts. The second laser treatment has proved effective for shrinking pores, clearing up inflamed acne lesions, and fading those chronic red blemishes and red acne scars. After this painless treatment, you’ll be back at your regular activities immediately—no downtime needed.

FAQ for Acne Treatment

Your clinic has a treatment for acne?

We do! Our clinic treats the most common forms of acne including: Comedones, Pustules, Papules, and Cysts/Nodules. NewDermaMed Cosmetic Clinic treats our clients that are experiencing acne with our Nd: YAG laser and Intense Pulse Light laser Technology. This allows us to use the safest and most innovative technology to suit each client’s needs.

What does the treatment do?

To begin, the laser emits a wavelength that penetrates through the skin and targets the overactive Sebaceous Glands (Oil Glands). When the sebaceous glands are heated, it causes a mild thermal injury that changes the activity of the glands. Simply stated, the glands no longer produce the same amount of oil, which is the main cause for breakouts. Also during treatment the laser kills acne causing bacteria under the skin. This gives our clients better lasting results.

What about intense Pulse Light? What does that do?

Intense Pulse Light (IPL) works hand in hand with the nd: YAG laser for treating acne. It is ideal for destroying surface bacteria for a quick clearance of current acne breakouts. When IPL is pared with a pore-centered suction to clear out clogged pores, it shrinks pores them leaving your skin looking much clearer. All of this is achieved in just one session!

Can’t I just use a medicated cream?

Medicated creams do assist with the symptoms of acne. However, with an acne treatment at our clinic, we are targeting the underlying cause beneath the skin. Medicated creams only remain on the surface of the skin and provide temporary relief. They do not focus on the root of the problem, unlike our laser treatment.

What causes acne?

Acne is caused by a number of different factors some being: a build up of dirt and bacteria within the pores of the skin, hormonal changes, food sensitivities, and over active sebaceous glands. Acne also can affect men and women off all ages and backgrounds. Those who experience severe acne may also suffer from social anxiety, depression and social isolation. Here at NewDermaMed Cosmetic Clinic we offer a positive acne solution!

If I do decide to have a treatment, is there anything else I should be doing?

Maintain a regular skin care routine at home is imperative. Be sure to be using products that are oil free. It is also important to refrain from scratching, or squeezing the acne. This will worsen the infection as well as it will spread acne-causing bacteria to other areas. Scratching your acne will also give a higher chance of scaring.

What will my skin be like after my treatments?

Our clients see positive results right after their first session. Skin will be clearer, softer and over a short period of time blemishes will fade away exposing radiant skin beneath.

How many treatments will I need?

Depending on the severity of the acne, we might advise several sessions. If more sessions are needed they will be given two weeks apart. All of this can be determined during a FREE consultation with our Medical Professional.

If this is the treatment right for me, what’s the next step?

It would be our pleasure here at NewDermaMed Cosmetic Clinic, to book you in for a FREE consultation. During your private consultation you will be able meet our Medical Professionals as well as tour our clinic. Your FREE consultation will also allow you to discus in person any concerns you may have.
