Treatment Overview
Treatment Overview
Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) is a less invasive way to treat larger and more advanced varicose veins than surgery. EVLT safely closes the vein and redirects blood flow to healthier veins by sending laser energy directly into the vein that isn't working right. This outpatient procedure improves circulation, relieves pain, and makes the skin look much better without the scarring or long recovery time that comes with surgery.
What to Expect
What to Expect
An EVLT session usually lasts 30 to 60 minutes and is done with local anesthesia. An ultrasound guides a thin fiber into the sick vein, where laser energy is used to heat it up and seal it shut. Patients may feel a slight warming or tingling, but the pain is not too bad. Compression stockings are often suggested after the procedure to help the body heal. Most patients can go back to their normal activities right away, with only minor bruising or soreness that goes away in a few days.
How it Works
How it Works
EVLT works by sending a lot of laser energy into the vein wall. The heat hurts the inside of the vein, which makes it collapse and seal off. The body will naturally reabsorb the treated vein over time, and blood will flow through nearby healthy veins instead. Not only does this make bulging veins less noticeable, but it also improves circulation, which helps with symptoms like heaviness, aching, and swelling in the legs.
Maintenance
Maintenance
After just one EVLT session, most patients see results that last a long time. A treated vein will not come back, but new varicose veins may form over time because of genetics, aging, or lifestyle choices. You may need to go back for follow-up visits to check on your progress, and if new veins show up, you may need to get more treatment.

Who is EVLT For?
People with moderate to severe varicose veins that are big, bulging, or painful should get EVLT. It is especially good for people who have leg pain, heaviness, swelling, tiredness, or twisted veins that are easy to see and make them uncomfortable or look bad. This treatment is also a good choice for people who want a less invasive option to surgical vein stripping that doesn’t require much recovery time and doesn’t leave any scars. People with very small veins or certain medical conditions may not be able to get EVLT, which is why a professional ultrasound evaluation is so important to find out if you are a good candidate.
