No Carbs Do Not Cause Acne

In our practice we are often asked about the causes of acne. Frequently our patients will ask us, do carbs cause acne? Although some people may find that some carbohydrates can aggravate their acne symptoms, carbs on their own do not cause. There is research to indicate that for some people, consumption of high glycemic carbohydrates may contribute to acne symptoms. Most people will find that carbohydrates and diet have little effect on their acne symptoms.

Carbs on their own do not cause acne, but what does? Acne is caused by hair follicles on our skin becoming clogged with buildup of oil or dead skin. Acne affect each person differently do to their own unique factors that can contribute to the production of acne.
