GET EVEN TONED SKIN WITH NO DOWNTIME WITH LASER AGE SPOT TREATMENT.

Age spots, which are also known as liver spots and solar lentigines, are small dark areas that appear on skin.  Sizes of the age spots vary and usually appear on the face, hands, shoulders and arms.  Areas of the body that are most exposed to the sun.

It is most common within adults older than 50 years of age.  Younger adults can get them as well, especially those who spend most of their time in the sun.

The age spots can appear to look like cancerous growths, however they are harmless and do not need treatment.  For cosmetic purposes, age spots can be brightened with skin bleaching products or can be removed.

Methods to prevent age spots can be done by regularly applying sunscreen and avoiding the sun.

SYMPTOMS

Age spots can affect people of different skin types, but are most common in people with a lighter skin complexion.  Age spots can appear:

  • Flat, oval areas of increased pigmentation
  • Usually tan, brown, and/or black
  • On skin that has received the most sun exposure over the years.  Areas such as the backs of hands. tops of feet, face, shoulders and upper back.

CAUSES

  • Age spots are provoked by overactive pigment cells.  Ultraviolet light (UV) expedites the production of melanin.  On the parts of the skin that have had prolonged sun exposure over the years, age spots appear when melanin becomes "clumped" or is producedin high concentrations.
  • Use of commercial tanning beds and lamps can also factor in the development of age spots.

PREVENTION

To help prevent age spots and appearance of new spots after treatment, it is best to follow these tips for limiting sun exposure:

  • Avoiding the sun between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.  The rays of the sun are most intense during these hours.
  • Apply sunscreen about 15 minutes prior to sun exposure.  It is best to use a sunscreen with a SPF of at least 30.  Reapply every 2 hours.
  • Cover up. Wear clothing that is tightly woven that covers the arms and legs.  Wearing a broad-trimmed hat provides more protection than a baseball cap or a visor.

AGE SPOTS REMOVAL TREATMENT

The NewDermaMed team uses the safest and most innovative technology on the market to suit each client’s needs.

For age spots, we may use the Cutera Limelight IPL and/or Laser Genesis technologies depending on the tone of your skin and the site and/or the severity of the discoloration.

HOW IT WORKS

The Cutera Limelight IPL (or Intense Pulsed Light treatment) is a versatile device, allowing us to target a range of pigmentation all in one appointment, which is ideal as age spots don’t always have uniform pigmentation.

The Limelight IPL features the industry’s fastest treatment speed and provides excellent melanin absorption. It permits real-time calibration, meaning that your treatment is customized precisely to your skin at each moment. The old cells containing those unwanted pigments will travel to your skin’s surface and slough off, leaving behind a renewed, clear skin.

An equally innovative tool, Laser Genesis is a powerful yet painless, non-invasive device that gently heats the skin below the top layer of your skin. This precise heating method tightens and refreshes skin, while stimulating collagen regrowth to restore a youthful glow.

LASER AGE SPOT TREATMENT RESULTS

In the days following your laser treatment, your skin may appear redder or slightly swollen. This is normal and will quickly heal and subside.

A series of three to six treatments may be needed to give you noticeable, long-lasting results. NewDermaMed will put together a treatment plan customized just for you.

To maintain the results of your treatments and help prevent the development of future age spots, we recommend that you use a full spectrum sunblock every day.
