Frequently asked questions

Laser Hair Removal

Does it hurt?
Only a slight pinching sensation is felt and no local anesthetics are needed. Clients may wish to take an ibuprofen after the procedure if a sensitive area is being treated. Example: bikini line. Our Laser equipment being used is known as the CoolGuide. It has a hand held piece that also cools the skin during the procedure, which allows the client to experience minimal discomfort.
What Laser equipment is used?
Here at NewDermaMed Clinic we use the CoolGuide and ProWave Laser technology created by CUTERA. They are one of the most advanced Laser Hair Removal pieces available on the market. They guarantee maximum results in comparison to other name brand laser technologies.
Is this treatment good for all hair and skin types?
We are able to work on all hair and skin types with both our CoolGuide and ProWave treatments with great results. However, if hair is proving to be stubborn during the removal process we will use our ProWave Laser. With ProWave we have the option of using 3 different treatment speeds and wavelengths, which we tailor to our client. This provides optimal hair removal efficiency.
Is there any down time?
No. Our clients can resume most daily activities, however heavy exercise is prohibited for a 24-hour period after each treatment. Sunbathing and tanning beds are also not to be used until 1 week after the treatment. This is because the treated areas will be highly sensitive to sun exposure.
What will my skin be like after?
Your skin will be the same as it was before, only more sensitive to the sun. We inform our clients that any area that has been treated and is exposed to the sun on a day-to-day basis should be covered with a minimum 30 SPF. For example: legs, arms, face etc.
Will my hair be completely gone after one treatment?
7-10 days after your first appointment, you will notice your hair fall out in the area that was treated. This is normal. However not all of our hairs grow at the same time. We recommend more then one Laser Hair Removal treatment so that it can target all hairs when they enter the growth stage. This will give you maximum results.
When Can I have my next appointment?
You can have your next session four weeks after your first. This gives time for the hairs that were not treated to enter into their growth stage. Then this will give us the opportunity to treat all the hairs and get maximum results for our clients.
Is there anything I need to do before my appointment?
We ask our clients to shave the area that will be treated on the day of the appointment.DO NOT WAX OR PLUCK. Waxing and plucking removes the hair follicle, and our Laser Hair Removaltreatment would then have no follicle to treat.
Are there any packages or deals?
On our website under Fees and Financing, we list all of our Laser Hair Removal treatments and costs as well as our package deals. If a client is inquiring about having multiple areas of the body treated we can offer a customized quote tailored to their needs. This can all be done during a FREE consultation.
What do I do if I am interested in this Laser Hair Removal treatment?
The next step would be to book a FREE consultation with one of our Medical Professionals. During your consultation they will discuss with you any questions you may have. They will also educate you on what hair removal treatment would be best for you, and why you have come to the right place!

The process of Laser Genesis works byslowly heating the dermis level below the superficial layers of the skin. This process aids in the stimulation of new collagen growth. Additionally, the thermal action of heating of the dermis level is further generated to the surface levels diffusing existing facial redness.
How many Treatments will I need?
Laser Genesis is a subtle and gradual improvement of the skin. We most often recommend a series of three to six treatments for best results. As each individual’s skin condition may vary a detailed and personal evaluation can be given during a one on one consultation.
How does Laser Genesis Feel?
Laser Genesis is a gentle, non-invasive laser procedure. It may be considered one of the most comfortable laser treatments on the market today. Most who experience Laser Genesis find it to be a highly relaxing procedure. The Laser Genesis handpiece is held and controlled from slightly above the skin. Its unique wavelength is slowly and strategically applied across the selected treatment area, creating a warming thermal action throughout the skin.
How Can I prepare for my Laser Genesis Procedure?
Prior to your Laser Genesis procedure you may be asked to shave any hair twelve hours or so ahead of your scheduled procedure. Any moisturizer or makeup will be removed prior to commencing. Any specific additional pre-treatment requirements may be reviewed and discussed ahead of your appointment with one of our Newdermamed Professionals. As Laser Genesis is a very comfortable procedure, no oral or topical medications are required.
What can I expect after my treatment?
Most regular activities can be resumed immediately following your Laser Genesis procedure. We advise the application of broad-spectrum sunscreen upon the treated area. We recommend the avoidance of applied heat including saunas, steam rooms and or hot tubs over the course of 24 – 48 hours. We recommend the avoidance potentially irritating skin products including Tretinoin, Retinol, Benzoyl Peroxide and or Glycolic Acid family of products directly after your Laser Genesis procedure.
Are there any side effects?
Those who have experiencedany side effects, have most commonly reported a slight redness at the area of treatment, which is known to subside within a few hours of the Laser Genesis procedure.

What is Photrejuvenation exactly?
Put simply, it is a state-of-the-art treatment for a wide range of skin conditions and imperfections. These treatments are also known as “Photofacials”.
What skin conditions does it treat?
Photorejuvenation is used for skin conditions such as: Age spots, Broken Capillaries, Enlarged Pores, Fine Lines, Hyperpigmentation, Melasma, skin texture issues, Redness, Spider Veins, Sun Damage, Freckles, and Birth Marks. These are very common skin conditions that most have today. We are happy to say that we provide a solution to this! Not just a temporary fix.
What technology is used for this treatment?
Here at NewDermaMed Clinic we use only the best available. For our Photorejuvenation treatment we employ LimeLight technology. LimeLight is the first light-based, 3-in-1 programmable wavelength for skin rejuvenation. The versatility lets us customize your treatment. We always keep our clients first in mind!
How does it target those areas?
The LimeLight targets the excessive pigment in your skin and the red colour of your blood vessels. The light energy converts to heat, which breaks up the targeted cells and leave the rest of your skin untouched. The old cells and imperfections treated will travel to your skins surface and slough off. You will then see renewed clear skin.
Is LimeLight Safe?
Of course it is! This technology by Cutera and is FDA approved. We here at NewDermaMed Clinic wouldn’t have it any other way.
Is it a long treatment?
Not at all! Some of our clients even have this treatment done during their lunch hour. Photorejuvenation will take anywhere from 30-45 minutes for our clients.
How many sessions can I have?
We recommend 3-6 sessions for our clients to have full results. These sessions will be completed at two-week intervals. During your FREE consultation, our Medical Professionals will determine just how many treatments you will be requiring.
Does it hurt?
There is no severe pain! Photorejuvenation feels like a “rubber band snapping” or a “flick” on the skin. Our clients in fact will be more surprised of the light then of the actual application. Here at NewDermaMed Clinic we always have the comfort of our clients in mind when it comes to their very important treatments.
Is there any down time?
None what so ever! As mentioned before some of our clients prefer to have this procedure done on their own lunch hour! After a treatment your face will seem a little flush, as if you had just been in the sun tanning. This is normal and only lasts a few hours. The flushed areas can be covered immediately with your own make-up of your choice.
If this treatment sounds right for me what’s the next step?
It would be our pleasure to book you in for a FREE consultation for Photrejuvenation. Our Medical Professionals will discuss with you more so as to why you have come to the right place. It would also give you a great opportunity to tour our facilities in the heart of down town Toronto. Please do not hesitate to call! Book today!

Is Rosacea permanent?
No there is a solution! We here at NewDermaMed Clinic use only the safest and most innovative technology on the market to treat this condition.
How does it work?
We employ LimeLight Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and Laser technology known as Laser Genesis. Using the combination of these two methods have demonstrated long lasting results! The LimeLight IPL is ideal for getting rid of the broken blood vessels that cause your skin to turn red so easily. Laser Genesis is an advanced laser designed to penetrate more deeply then previous Rosacea therapies.
Does it get rid of all my symptoms?
This treatment can and will reduce the appearance of various Rosacea symptoms such as: dry skin, frequent blushing, persistent skin redness, skin irritation including stinging or itching, swelling or inflammation, skin thickening around the nose, small red bumps that resemble acne, visibility of small blood vessels and Ocular Rosacea.
What causes Rosacea?
Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that causes dilation of the blood vessels. Some factors that might excel this skin condition are: alcohol, spicy food, anxiety, heat, and excessive wind exposure.
Does the treatment hurt?
Clients will experience a slight heating sensation during the Laser Genesis, and a “rubber band snapping” during the LimeLight IPL. Overall there is no severe pain or discomfort!
What happens if I don’t treat my Rosacea?
Over time the conditions may only worsen as the blood vessels weaken. The redness can spread beyond the cheeks and nose, to neck, chest, and/or eyelids. Our Laser Technology is the best way to treat Rosacea and its visible symptoms!
Can’t I just use a cream or make-up?
True some creams can have a calming effect on the troubled area and give some temporary relief. As well as make-up can hide most of the visible symptoms. However these are only temporary solutions. We here at NewDermaMed Cliniconly offer permanent and lasting results!

Stretch Marks

Where do Stretch Marks come from?
They can be caused by different factors, most common being because of rapid gain or weight loss. We see them as unattractive pink, red or purple-based hues. Stretch Marks are usually located on abdomen, breasts, upper arms, buttocks and thighs.
Why won’t creams work to get rid of them?
Beauty creams do not have the best results because Stretch Marks are tears at a deeper level of the skin, and ruptured collagen fibers. The fact is topical treatments simply cannot penetrate deeply enough to dramatically improve Stretch Marks.
Do you have a treatment that really works with Stretch Marks?
Absolutely! Here at NewDermaMed Clinic we only use the best technology available on the market. This is so we can guarantee our clients the best results. For the removal of stretch marks, our qualified staff uses various laser technologies. These Include Laser Genesis, Nd-YAG Lasers, IPL Lasers and Fractional Laser Resurfacing. We will refer to them as Laser Resurfacing.
Which one would be best for me?
During a FREE consultation, our Medical Professional will evaluate the area and recommend what laser would be best. However, our Fractional Laser Resurfacing is the most effective!
How does a Laser Treatment work?
By using Laser Resurfacing, we can stimulate in-depth collagen and elastin synthesis. This non-invasive procedure removes damaged tissue while leaving healthy surrounding areas untouched. We treat Stretch Marks at the deep level where they are formed. No cream or oil purchased at Beauty Supplies can match this proven modern technology. We simply take care of the Stretch Marks right at the source of the problem.
What happens to my Stretch Marks when it is being treated?
The laser therapy actually “fills in” your Stretch Marks during the process. This is done as mentioned earlier by removing the damaged skin and fibers. As well as stimulating collagen regrowth.
What is so important about collagen?
Collagen repairs and rejuvenates skin tissue. It is known as the natural “building blocks” of the body. Here at NewDermaMed Clinic we want our clients to know that collagen is very important in keeping healthy skin, and our laser treatments always promote that. We want you to have what your body deserves, naturally!
What will my skin be like after my treatment?
Laser Resurfacing therapy requires very little recovery time. Some clients may experience temporary swelling but this will only last a few days.
Will I notice a difference right away after one session?
Your body needs time to start producing healthy collagen in the treated area. Visible results from the Laser Resurfacing may or may not be present immediately. Clients may need multiple sessions to achieve the results you are hoping for. It would be well to note that after each session however, the area treated is 20% better in smoothness. After each treatment our clients will see improvements in the texture, diameter and depth of their stretch marks.
Does this treatment fix all different kinds of Stretch Marks?
If your Stretch Marks have red pigments we recommend the combined use of the IPL, Nd-YAG Laser, and Fractional Laser Resurfacing. Doing this will achieve maximum visible results.
How much are treatments?
During a FREE consultation, our Medical Professional will review with the client what areas they wish to be treated. Then afterwards they will create a quote tailored to their needs. This is because every client is unique when it comes to the conditions of their stretch marks.
If I would like to know more about this treatment what is the next step?

It will also give us the chance to show you in person why you have come to the right place! Our state-of-the-art clinic is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Toronto.

Laser Vein Reduction Treatment

What types of Veins can be treated?
A range of vessels from barely visibletiny Spider veins, also known as Telangiectasia quite commonly found on the facial areato larger, pronounced and deeper blue veins.Spider veins and larger pronounced reticular purple to bluish veins primarily found singularly or in clusters on the legs are often easily treated.Varicose Veins; often identified as larger, physically protruding “Bulging” veins are not ideal candidates for Laser Vein procedures. A consultation with a NEWDERMAMED professional will address which vessels can be safely most effectively treated.
Can all Skin Types be treated for Laser Vein Reduction?
Our advanced laser technology features a unique design and long wavelength that allows treatment of patients of all skin tones. Patients with dark, light or tanned skin can experience outstanding results with minimal bruising or blistering.
How do Laser Vein Reduction Treatments work?
Our Laser Vein Treatment includes a specifically selected wavelength applied to each targeted area. These specific wavelengths deliver pulses of light energy, which cause the coagulation of blood within the vein and continues to destroy the surrounding tissue, which is reabsorbed into your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to healthier veins deeper below your skin’s surface.
Are Laser Vein Procedures painful?
Most who experience Laser Vein Treatments, find a brief snapping or stinging sensation on the site of treatment as the pulses of energy are delivered to each area. No local anesthetic or oral medications are required, however those who prefer to, may select either option prior to commencing each treatment. Many who experience Laser Vein Procedures find it comparatively less painful thantraditional Sclerotherapy injection treatments.
How many treatments will I need?
We often recommend one to three treatments as an average series. Results will vary per individual subjective to size, number and colour of vessel being treated. Some vessels will clear immediately after contact with the laser, others will begin to fade over the course of a few days to a few weeks requiring a repeat treatment. A detailed and personal evaluation can be given during a one on one consultation.
What can I expect after my treatment?
Post Laser Vein Reduction procedure, some redness or bruising may occur. Most experience little to no pain. In some cases when larger veins are being treated, light or brownish pigment may persist on the surface of the skin temporarily. Those have leg vein treatments may be advised to wear support hose for a short period of time to eliminate strain and encourage healing.
Are there any side effects?
Most who experience Laser Vein Reduction procedures report few if any side effects from the procedure. The most commonly reported side effect is flushing, or mild swelling upon the sight of treatment. Most of these side effects will subside within a 24 hour period. Light bruising and in rare instances, blistering may occur.
Will my day-to-day activities be disrupted?
For the first 24 hours, we recommend the restriction of vigorous exercise. We advise the application of broad-spectrum sunscreen upon the treated area over the next few weeks and or limiting sun exposure until the course of treatment is complete.

Acne Removal Treatments

Your clinic has a treatment for Acne?
We do! Our clinic treats the most common forms of acne including: Comedones, Pustules, Papules, and Cysts/Nodules. NewDermaMed Cosmetic Clinic treats our clients that are experiencing acne with our Nd: YAG laser and Intense Pulse Light laser Technology. This allows us to use the safest and most innovative technology to suit each client’s needs.
What does the treatment do?
To begin, the laser emits a wavelength that penetrates through the skin and targets the overactive Sebaceous Glands (Oil Glands). When the sebaceous glands are heated, it causes a mild thermal injury that changes the activity of the glands. Simply stated, the glands no longer produce the same amount of oil, which is the main cause for breakouts. Also during treatment the nd:YAG Laser kills acne causing bacteria under the skin. This gives our clients better lasting results.
What about Intense Pulse Light? What does that do?
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) works hand in hand with the nd: YAG laser for treating acne. It is ideal for destroying surface bacteria for a quick clearance of current acne breakouts. When IPL is pared with a pore-centered suction to clear out clogged pores, it shrinks pores them leaving your skin looking much clearer. All of this is achieved in just one session!
Can’t I just use a medicated cream?
Medicated creams do assist with the symptoms of acne. However, with an acne treatment at our clinic, we are targeting the underlying cause beneath the skin. Medicated creams only remain on the surface of the skin and provide temporary relief. They do not focus on the root of the problem, unlike our laser treatment.
What causes Acne?
Acne is caused by a number of different factors some being: a build up of dirt and bacteria within the pores of the skin, hormonal changes, food sensitivities, and over active sebaceous glands. Acne also can affect men and women off all ages and backgrounds. Those who experience severe acne may also suffer from social anxiety, depression and social isolation. Here at NewDermaMed Cosmetic Clinic we offer a positive acne solution!
If I do decide to have a treatment, is there anything else I should be doing?
Maintain a regular skin care routine at home is imperative. Be sure to be using products that are oil free. It is also important to refrain from scratching, or squeezing the acne. This will worsen the infection as well as it will spread acne-causing bacteria to other areas. Scratching your acne will also give a higher chance of scaring.
What will my skin be like after my treatments?
Our clients see positive results right after their first session. Skin will be clearer, softer and over a short period of time blemishes will fade away exposing radiant skin beneath.
How many treatments will I need?
Depending on the severity of the acne, we might advise several sessions. If more sessions are needed they will be given two weeks apart. All of this can be determined during a FREE consultation with our Medical Professional.

What does this treatment actually do?
Our clinics Professional Microdermabrasion devises uses fine crystals that pass over the skin via a pulsating wand. This process gently removes old dead skin cells off of the complexion’s surface. It is the exact same process of exfoliating. Only difference is this treatment doesn’t come in a cream sold at beauty supply, and offers better long lasting results.
Is this treatment to harsh for my skin?
Not at all! Microdermabrasion is a gentle process designed to specifically target the outermost layer of our skin. Our skin is powerful and the largest organ we have. Here at NewDermaMed Clinic would never promote a practice that would jeopardize something that is so important to all of us. As mentioned earlier it is just a more precise form of exfoliating.
What is it exfoliating?
Our skin has a cycle where cells are formed, grow old and die. When they have reached the final stage of their life they can be found on the outermost layer of our skin the Epidermis. We know them today as “dry skin” “patches” or “flakes”. Most people think that a good moisturizer will eliminate this problem. We always inform our clients of a more practical solution. During Microdermabrasion these dead cells are lifted away, with ease to reveal the new healthy skin that was already there.
What will my skin be like afterwards?
Most individuals experience an improvement in skin tone and texture right after their first session with us. Clients will also experience a difference in: Age Spots, Fine Lines, Large Pores, and Dry Skin Patches just to name a few.
